Focus on Trebaluger

6th August 2018

Only about a 2-minute drive from Es Castell and less than 10 minutes’ drive from Menorca’s capital Mahon, the village of Trebaluger is a haven of peace but close enough to the action.

Here you will find pretty lanes with bougainvillaea-covered stone walls, behind which white-washed Menorcan houses and stylish villas sit in lovingly tended gardens

This particular corner of the island is heaven for walkers and cyclists. Menorquians love cycling and are proud of their well-marked and -tended cycle paths, and the Trebaluger area is particularly well served by them. Numerous paths wind their way through the fragrant countryside under pine and palm trees, often leading to little coves or interesting sights, such as one of the megalithic monuments that are abundant on Menorca and are known as Talaiots.

But don’t worry – if it’s pure seaside relaxation you’re after then this part of the island won’t disappoint either. The nearest beaches are the little cala at Alcaufar and the large family-friendly white sandy beach at Punta Prima, both just a few minutes’ drive away.

When staying in Trebaluger your local town is Sant Lluis, which boasts numerous quality restaurants and bars and all other amenities such as shops, banks and pharmacies, all centred around a town square with an excellent Saturday market. It even has its own vineyard, Binifadet, with a wonderful restaurant.

Just a little further afield, but still within a very short drive, is Es Castell with its pedestrianized fishing harbour, Cales Fonts. While away happy hours in its many bars and restaurants sampling the local gin or freshly caught fish while watching the world go by.
