Why you should visit Menorca in May or June

23rd November 2023

A totally different island awaits you if you travel to Menorca in May or June. Compared to some of the shimmering heat hazes of high summer, the light is crystal clear and the paths have been lined with lush green grasses and the delicate wildflowers of Spring. The clarity of the blue and turquoise marbled sea is incandescent and the idyllic, sandy beaches have just begun to welcome back their sun-seekers. Visitors lucky enough to visit the island during this period will be entranced by the last blossoms of Spring when lemon tree branches are heavy with ripe fruit and the scent of wild jasmine and orange blossom fills the air. Join in some of the exciting island events of the season or embrace the peace and quiet of this beautiful little slice of the Balearics where life has a slower pace.

What is there to do in Menorca in May and June

Temperatures on the island will have climbed to the pleasant high twenties by May and June, enjoying longer, sunnier spells, which makes it the perfect time of year to enjoy a more active lifestyle outdoors.

From exploring by foot or mountain bike, to going horse riding along the beach in the sparkling shallows or kayaking along the coastline, you can while away the hours discovering the many bays and quaint villages that make up the island’s hidden secrets.

Why not follow a Talayotic trail of ancient megalithic structures and take a step back in time or take on the challenge of hiking up Monte Toro, the island's spiritual heart?

What to see in Menorca

During May the island-wide flower festivals in major towns deliver stunning themed displays that last for a few days and also offer some delightful music, exhibition and artisanal market highlights.

If you prefer something more exuberant and exciting, the midsummer Fiesta Sant Joan in June is one of the island’s most iconic events, with elegantly dressed riders and their spectacular horses putting on a miraculous show of skill as residents take to the streets of the city of Ciutadella for lively celebrations.

If you love a bit of shopping, why not stroll around the many stylish clothing boutiques or soak up the atmosphere of the markets selling beautifully hand-crafted goods?

Menorca's Cafe Culture

While the umbrellas and seating will once again be outside cafes and restaurants ready for leisurely alfresco dining, May and June is the perfect time to enjoy a long, peaceful lunch or dinner in one of the island's many superb eateries before the more energetic atmosphere of summer arrives.

Menorca has established a thriving food scene in the past decade offering not only authentic Menorcan dishes but cuisines from all around the world. With its abundance of fresh catch from the sea there are some outstanding seafood restaurants. One of our favourite stops on the island is En Caragol in Biniancolla, who serve mouth-watering grilled fish and meat dishes among other delicious things.

Enjoy a relaxing drink with unrivalled coastal views or head to the bars and jazz clubs in the closest town or city for an evening of entertainment.
